Mt. Brave Merlot

The 2014 Mt. Brave Merlot is a brilliant expression of this grape variety, sourced from the high-altitude vineyards of Mount Veeder in Napa Valley. The region's rugged, rocky terroir and temperate climate provide ideal conditions for the production of elegant and complex Merlot wines.

The grapes are harvested by hand from vineyards at an altitude of 425 to 550 metres, where the poor, well-drained soils ensure concentrated and balanced grapes. The 2014 vintage is characterised by perfect ripening conditions, resulting in a wine with exceptional depth and refinement.

In the glass, the wine presents itself with a deep ruby colour. The bouquet is inviting and layered, with aromas of black cherry, plum, cocoa, and a subtle hint of spice and graphite. On the palette, the 2014 Mt. Brave Merlot offers a silky texture with well-integrated tannins and lively acidity. Flavours of ripe berries, dark chocolate, and a hint of cedar lead to a long, balanced finish.

The wine has matured for 22 months in French oak barrels, 80% of which are new. This ageing adds a refined structure and complexity, while maintaining pure fruit expression.

The 2014 Mt. Brave Merlot has a storage potential of 10 to 15 years and pairs beautifully with dishes such as roast leg of lamb, roast duck or a selection of mature cheeses. It is an impressive example of how Napa Valley Merlot can shine and a real treat for lovers of this grape variety.
