Château Pichon Baron

Château Pichon Baron, officially known as Château Longueville au Baron de Pichon-Longueville, is one of the most prestigious wineries in the Pauillac appellation, Bordeaux. Founded in 1850, the winery has a rich history dating back to the 17th century. The imposing château, with its iconic towers and reflecting pond, is one of the region's most recognisable images and symbolises the grandeur of Bordeaux.

Château Pichon Baron's vineyards cover 73 hectares and lie on an exceptional terroir of deep gravel hills with excellent drainage. These soils are ideal for growing Cabernet Sauvignon (65%), Merlot (30%) and small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The vines have an average age of 35 years, which contributes to the concentration and complexity of the grapes.

Château Pichon Baron's wines are known for their power, elegance and ageing potential. The grand vin, Château Pichon Baron, offers an intense bouquet of black fruit, cedar and tobacco, with a velvety tannin structure and a long, refined finish. In addition to the grand vin, the estate also produces a second wine, Les Griffons de Pichon Baron, and a third wine, Les Tourelles de Longueville, each offering a more accessible expression of the exceptional terroir.

Since the 1980s, Château Pichon Baron has experienced a renaissance under the leadership of AXA Millésimes, with significant investment in the vineyard and cellar facilities. This has led to consistent production of wines that are among the top in Pauillac.

Château Pichon Baron combines tradition and innovation to produce wines that reflect the essence of Pauillac. With a reputation for excellence and a history spanning more than three centuries, the estate remains an icon in the world of Bordeaux wines.

The 2015 Château Pichon-Baron is a majestic Pauillac Deuxième Grand Cru Classé, from one of the most prestigious estates in the Médoc. With a history dating back to the late 17th century, Château Pichon-Baron is celebrated for its deep-rooted tradition and uncompromising commitment to quality. The vineyards are situated on exceptional gravel plateaus that ensure perfect drainage and optimal ripening of the grapes.

The blend of the 2015 vintage consists of 77% Cabernet Sauvignon and 23% Merlot, resulting in a wine with both power and refinement. The Cabernet Sauvignon delivers structure, depth and intense aromatic complexity, while the Merlot provides roundness and softness.

In the glass, the wine shows a deep, almost opaque purple colour. The bouquet is rich and expressive, with aromas of blackcurrant, cassis, graphite and a hint of violets. Subtle notes of cedar, tobacco and dark chocolate add layering. On the palette, Château Pichon-Baron 2015 offers impressive concentration with silky tannins, lively acidity and wonderful balance. The long, refined finish is characterised by mineral accents and elegant spicy nuances.

The wine has matured for 18 months in French oak barrels, 80% of which are new. This ageing adds a refined structure and subtle wood tones, without overpowering the fruit expression.

Château Pichon-Baron 2015 has exceptional storage potential of 20 to 30 years
