Dalkeith

Dalkeith is a joint wine project by Graham Weerts and Adi Badenhorst, two prominent figures in the South African wine industry. The initiative grew out of their decades-long friendship and shared passion for creating wines that reflect the uniqueness of specific terroirs.

The grapes for Dalkeith are carefully selected from three distinctive vineyards: Kalmoesfontein and Jakkalsfontein in the Swartland, both owned by Adi Badenhorst, and Koplandsteen in Bottelary, Stellenbosch, managed by the Du Bois family. These sites, with vines averaging 50 years old, produce exceptional Chenin Blanc and Syrah that capture the essence of their growing environment.

In the cellar, Dalkeith takes a minimalist approach, focusing on preserving the purity of the fruit. The wines are aged in a combination of ceramics, amphoras and old, neutral wooden barrels, resulting in wines that are honest and uncomplicated, yet offer intriguing complexity.

Graham Weerts, known for his work at Capensis and other international wine projects, brings his extensive experience to Dalkeith. Adi Badenhorst, a pioneer in the Swartland region, is known for his traditional winemaking techniques and deep respect for the land. Together, they strive to produce wines that not only highlight the quality of South African wines, but also celebrate the stories and people behind the vineyards.

Dalkeith embodies the synergy between friendship, craftsmanship and a deep-rooted connection to the South African terroir, offering wine lovers worldwide an authentic and immersive experience.

The Dalkeith Chenin Blanc Kalmoesfontein 2023 is an exceptional expression of South African winemaking. This single-vineyard wine is produced at Kalmoesfontein, an iconic vineyard in the Swartland region, managed by visionary winemaker Adi Badenhorst. Set on granite-rich soils and planted with old bush vines, the vineyard benefits from the warm, dry climate of the Swartland, resulting in grapes with concentrated flavours and unique minerality.

The 2023-vintage highlights the exceptional character of Chenin Blanc with its clarity and refinement. In the glass, the wine presents itself with a light golden colour and an aromatic bouquet of ripe peach, quince, honey and subtle hints of white flowers. On the palate, this Chenin Blanc offers a beautiful interplay of fresh acidity, juicy stone fruit and a delicate minerality that continues into a long, lively finish.

The wine is fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged in a combination of neutral oak barrels and concrete tanks. This approach preserves the purity of the fruit while adding subtle texture. The Dalkeith Chenin Blanc Kalmoesfontein 2023 is a wine that is both accessible in its youth and complex enough to age.

Perfect as an aperitif or paired with dishes such as grilled fish, seafood, or poultry. This Chenin Blanc embodies the essence of Kalmoesfontein and Dalkeith's commitment to producing wines that celebrate their unique terroir.
