Capensis
Capensis, meaning 'from the Cape', is a leading winery in South Africa's Western Cape, specialising in producing exceptional Chardonnay wines. Led by visionary winemaker Graham Weerts, Capensis strives to capture the unique expression of the Cape terroir.
Capensis carefully selects grapes from various vineyards in the Western Cape, with a focus on Stellenbosch, Overberg and Robertson. One prominent site is the Fijnbosch Estate Vineyard in Stellenbosch's Banghoek Valley. This high-altitude vineyard, with clay-rich soils on steep slopes, contributes to the wines' refinement, structure and acidity.
Another important vineyard is Cayman's Hole in the Overberg region, located at 757 metres altitude. The exposure to extreme weather conditions and the late harvest period results in grapes with intense minerality and a clean focus.
Capensis' philosophy is rooted in combining the oldest and newest facets of winemaking in the Western Cape. The winery embodies the unrivalled quality that comes from old, gnarled vines planted on some of the oldest soils in the world, and represents the young energy of a new generation of winemakers determined to make world-class wines with modern techniques.
By selecting grapes from diverse, extreme vineyard locations, Capensis strives to celebrate and combine the unique characteristics of each terroir in their wines. This approach results in Chardonnays with remarkable complexity, balance and depth, reflecting the versatility and potential of Cape Winemaking regions.
Capensis is committed to positioning South Africa as a world-class Chardonnay producer, with a deep respect for both tradition and innovation in their winemaking process.
