Capensis Fijnbosch Chardonnay
The Capensis Fijnbosch Chardonnay 2019 is an exceptional single-vineyard wine from the high-altitude Fijnbosch block in the Western Cape, South Africa. A tribute to the region's unique terroir and rich winemaking tradition, this wine combines power, finesse and elegance.
Located at an altitude of over 500 metres, the Fijnbosch vineyard benefits from cool temperatures, granite-rich soils and ideal sunlight exposure. These conditions ensure slow ripening of the grapes and contribute to the wine's distinct minerality and balance.
In the glass, the wine shows a bright, light golden colour. The bouquet is expressive and refined, with aromas of ripe citrus, peach, white flowers and a subtle hint of toasted almonds. On the palette, the 2019 Capensis Fine Forest Chardonnay offers a creamy texture, supported by lively acidity and impressive depth. Flavours of lemon peel, apricot and a hint of vanilla lead to a long, elegant finish with mineral accents.
The wine was aged for 10 months in French oak barrels, 40% of which were new. This ageing adds layering and complexity, while maintaining the freshness and purity of the grape.
The Capensis Fijnbosch Chardonnay 2019 is an ideal companion to rich fish dishes such as grilled turbot, fried plaice or lobster with a butter sauce. With a storage potential of 8 to 12 years, this wine offers an unforgettable experience and demonstrates the potential of South African Chardonnay at a global level.
