Château Haut-Bailly
Château Haut-Bailly, located in the Pessac-Léognan appellation in Bordeaux, has a rich history dating back to the 16th century. In 1630, the estate was acquired by Parisian banker Firmin Le Bailly, after whom the château is named. The estate covers 30 hectares of vineyards, which have remained unchanged for 400 years. The soil consists of sand and gravel, which contributes to the finesse and complexity of the wines.
The vineyard is planted with 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. The grapes are harvested by hand and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel and concrete vats. After maceration, the wine matures for 18 months in oak barrels, many of which are new.
Château Haut-Bailly produces around 150,000 bottles a year. In addition to the grand vin, there has been a second wine since 1967, originally known as Domaine de la Parde and later renamed La Parde de Haut-Bailly. In 2018, this second wine was relaunched under the name Haut-Bailly II.
Haut-Bailly II is made from the same terroirs and with the same care as the grand vin, but is more accessible at a younger age. The wine offers a harmonious character with supple tannins and an inviting aroma of red and black fruits, complemented by subtle wood tones.
Château Haut-Bailly is known for its elegant and balanced wines, which reflect the unique terroir of Pessac-Léognan. With a commitment to quality and tradition, the estate continues to play a prominent role in the Bordeaux wine world.
