Château Lassègue

Château Lassègue, located in the heart of Saint-Émilion, is a historic winery with a rich tradition dating back to the 18th century. The estate covers 36 hectares of south-west facing vineyards, situated on sunny slopes known as the region's natural amphitheatre. This location ensures optimal sun exposure, which is essential for the ripening and complexity of the grapes. The old vines, with plantings of 55% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, grow on soils of clay and limestone, contributing to wines with a unique expression of the terroir.

Pierre Seillan, a visionary winemaker, leads the winery with his signature 'micro-cru' philosophy. Here, individual plots are cultivated and vinified separately, to best express the specific characteristics of each piece of land. The domain's flagship wine, Lassègue, is known for its elegance, finesse and deep complexity, while its second wine, Les Cadrans de Lassègue, offers a more accessible profile while retaining its terroir character. In 2022, Château Lassègue was officially recognised as a Grand Cru Classé, a confirmation of the dedication and craftsmanship that characterise the winery.

Besides Château Lassègue, Pierre Seillan is also the driving force behind several prestigious wineries worldwide. In Sonoma County, California, he creates the iconic wines of Vérité, including La Muse, La Joie and Le Désir. These wines combine the diversity of Californian terroirs with French winemaking traditions. In Tuscany, he leads the Tenuta di Arceno project, producing elegant wines that reflect the essence of the Italian landscape. He is also responsible for Anakota in Knights Valley, Sonoma County, where he makes single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignons that capture the unique character of the region.

Through his work at Château Lassègue, Vérité, Tenuta di Arceno and Anakota, Pierre Seillan has established his reputation as one of the most innovative and talented winemakers in the world. His dedication to terroir and craftsmanship results in wines that celebrate the uniqueness of their origins while offering unparalleled elegance and complexity.

Château Lassègue 2015 is a magnificent Saint-Émilion Grand Cru that combines the power and elegance of this exceptional appellation. Located on the sunny slopes of the Côte de Saint-Émilion, the estate benefits from a unique terroir with limestone and clay soils that bring complexity and balance to the wines.

The 2015 vintage, one of the most acclaimed Bordeaux vintages, is composed of a blend of 60% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. This composition delivers a wine with impressive structure and layering, with each grape variety contributing to the harmonious whole.

In the glass, the wine presents itself with a deep ruby red colour. The bouquet opens with aromas of ripe black cherries, cassis and violets, complemented by notes of spices, graphite and a hint of dark chocolate. On the palette, the 2015 Château Lassègue offers a silky texture, refined tannins and a wonderful balance between power and freshness. The long, complex finish is characterised by mineral accents and subtle notes of cedar and spices.

The wine has matured for 12 to 14 months in French oak barrels, 60% of which are new. This ageing adds depth and a delicate spiciness without overpowering the expression of the fruit and terroir.

Château Lassègue 2015 has a storage potential of 15 to 20 years and will continue to develop over the coming decades. It is an excellent companion to dishes such as lamb rack with herb crust, roast duck breast with a berry sauce, or a rich risotto with mushrooms and truffle. Reflecting the dedication and craftsmanship of the team at Château Lassègue, this wine offers an unforgettable taste experience.
