Château Léoville-Las-Cases

Château Léoville Las Cases, located in the Saint-Julien appellation in Bordeaux, is one of the region's most prestigious and historic wineries. The estate is part of the former Léoville estate, which was divided into three separate châteaux in the 18th century. Léoville Las Cases, with its iconic entrance gate and stone lions, is often seen as the flagship of Saint-Julien and has earned a reputation comparable to the Premier Crus.

The vineyards of Château Léoville Las Cases cover about 97 hectares and border the famous vineyards of Pauillac. This strategic location, with soils of gravel, clay and limestone, provides an ideal terroir for planting Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The grapes are harvested by hand and undergo strict selection to use only the best fruit for the wines. This results in wines known for their depth, structure and extraordinary ageing potential.

The estate's grand vin, Château Léoville Las Cases, is considered one of Bordeaux's most refined and complex wines. It offers a harmonious blend of power and elegance, with aromas of black fruit, cedar, graphite and subtle spices. In addition to the grand vin, the estate also produces a second wine, Clos du Marquis, which comes from separate plots within the estate and offers a more accessible style without sacrificing quality.

Château Léoville Las Cases' history and craftsmanship make it one of the most respected names in Bordeaux. Whether it is a young wine or a mature vintage, Léoville Las Cases always promises an unparalleled experience for wine lovers around the world.

The 2014 Château Léoville-Las-Cases is an impressive Saint-Julien Deuxième Grand Cru Classé that perfectly embodies the essence of this prestigious appellation. The historic estate, one of the oldest and most respected in the Médoc, is located next to the iconic Château Latour and benefits from an exceptional terroir with gravel and clay soils that contribute to the wine's complexity and structure.

The blend of the 2014 vintage consists of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot and 11% Cabernet Franc. This composition delivers a wine with an unparalleled balance of power, elegance and finesse. The Cabernet Sauvignon provides intense aromas and firm structure, while the Merlot and Cabernet Franc contribute softness and aromatic complexity.

In the glass, the wine presents itself with a deep ruby red colour. The bouquet opens with refined aromas of cassis, blackcurrant and plum, complemented by notes of cedar, graphite and a hint of truffle. On the palette, the 2014 Château Léoville-Las-Cases offers a silky texture, ripe tannins and lively freshness. The long, layered finish is characterised by mineral accents and subtle notes of tobacco and spices.

The wine has matured for 18 months in French oak barrels, 80% of which are new. This ageing adds a refined complexity without overpowering the fruit expression, making the wine both accessible in its youth and with great ageing potential.

Château Léoville-Las-Cases 2014 has a storage potential of 20 to 30 years and will continue to develop over the coming decades. This wine is an ideal accompaniment to refined dishes such as roasted leg of lamb, venison back fillet with a dark berry sauce or a truffle risotto. It is a wine that perfectly reflects the exceptional quality and craftsmanship of this historic estate.
