Bodegas Félix Callejo

Bodegas Félix Callejo is a family-run winery from the village of Sotillo de la Ribera, located in the heart of Ribera del Duero. Founded in 1989 by Félix Callejo, the estate grew simultaneously with the region's rise to become one of today's most terroir-driven producers.

The vineyards rise to around 930 metres altitude, where cool nights ensure freshness, excitement and elegance in the wines. The combination of calcareous soils, sand, clay and old river deposits gives each cuvée a distinct character and precision.

Today, the estate is run by the second generation. José Félix gained international experience at companies including Pétrus, while Noelia worked at Eisele Vineyard. This background translates into a clear vision: to make wines that reflect the terroir of Sotillo de la Ribera as purely as possible.

Whereas Ribera was traditionally known for power and use of wood, Callejo deliberately opts for finesse, balance and precision. The wines, mainly based on Tinto Fino (Tempranillo), combine depth and structure with striking freshness and a refined texture, making them ideally suited to gastronomy.

Parajes is a refined red wine that impressively expresses the elegance and purity of the terroir. Sourced from carefully selected parcels, this wine reflects a philosophy that focuses on balance, precision and drinkability.

The grapes are harvested by hand from vineyards with poor, stony soils, which contributes to concentration and finesse in the wine. The relatively cool climate means the grapes retain their natural freshness, adding tension and structure to the final result.

In the glass, the wine presents itself with a bright ruby red colour. The bouquet is elegant and layered, with aromas of red fruits such as cherry and raspberry, complemented by floral notes, a subtle spicy character and a slight earthy undertone. On the palette, the Parajes offers a silky texture, refined tannins and lively acidity. Flavours of juicy red fruits, dried herbs and a hint of spice lead to a long, harmonious finish.

The wine matures for around 18 months in French oak barrels, deliberately limiting the use of new wood to let the fruit and terroir speak for themselves. This results in a wine where subtlety and complexity go hand in hand.

The Parajes pairs excellently with refined meat dishes such as lamb saddle, game dishes or pigeon. Thanks to its balance between freshness and structure, the wine has a storage potential of around 6 to 8 years and develops beautifully in bottle.
