Brewer Clifton Diatom Chardonnay
The Brewer-Clifton Diatom Chardonnay 2022 is a unique expression of purity and minimalism, from the Sta. Rita Hills AVA in Santa Barbara County, California. This wine pays homage to the terroir and reflects winemaker Greg Brewer's philosophy of striving for an unfiltered expression of the grape and the region.
The name "Diatom" refers to the diatomaceous earth soils (chalky sediment) that characterise the Sta. Rita Hills. These soils contribute to the wine's distinct minerality and freshness. The 2022 vintage provided ideal conditions for balanced ripening, with grapes achieving the perfect combination of ripeness and acidity.
In the glass, the wine shows a bright, light golden colour. The bouquet is refined and expressive, with aromas of citrus, green apple, white flowers and a hint of sea salt. On the palette, the 2022 Diatom Chardonnay offers a tight and energetic texture, supported by lively acidity and a pronounced minerality. Flavours of lemon peel, lime and a hint of stone fruit lead to a long, fresh finish.
The wine is vinified entirely in stainless steel tanks and has no influence of wood, allowing the pure fruit expression and terroir characteristics to reach their full potential.
The Brewer-Clifton Diatom Chardonnay 2022 is an ideal companion to light fish dishes such as ceviche of white fish, grilled haddock or oysters with a lemon dressing. With a storage potential of 5 to 8 years, this wine is a refreshing and refined choice for lovers of mineral, tightly vinified Chardonnay.
